The Rector of the African Virtual University, Dr. Bakary Diallo, will attend the World Congress 2012 Open Educational resources. The Conference is organized by UNESCO in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), and with the generous support of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. The objectives of the Congress are: release the declaration of Paris 2012 rel; Present the best practices of the world in open educational resources policies, initiatives and experts; and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Forum UNESCO 2002 who coined the phrase resources free educational (rel).
AVU will present to the participants in the Conference OER@AVU, an online platform where scientists and educators can contribute educational used for teaching, learning, unrestricted search for copy right. The hosts of platform (http://oer.avu.org) AVU OER 73 open training modules divided into a variety of topics: 46 courses of math and science, training teachers in 19, four basic ICT (information and communications technology) skills and four in integration of ICT in the classroom. These resources are also available on Scribd (http://www.scribd.com/AfricanVirtualUni).
The course material was developed and released as free resources for education through the AVU multinational Teacher Education Program and is available in three languages – English, French and Portuguese, making AVU institution African leader in providing and using rel. The portal is also 105 tutorial videos on various topics, 15 of which are in French. AVU is currently improving its existing collection, computer development of new resources and making the OER portal that is more interactive and attractive for users.
